Top 10 Paper Companies To Buy Right Now

The market wasn't impressed by Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) WWDC powwow with developers this week. Investors wanted more than a predictable iOS update, a Pandora knockoff, and a toilet paper roll-shaped Mac Pro.

Apple stock closed lower on the week in response, but then things got interesting. Reports surfaced later in the week that Apple was working on the kind of the stuff that could eventually move Apple stock higher. We're talking about bigger, cheaper, and more colorful iPhones.

If that's true, Apple, you have my attention.

After more than five years of iPhone loyalty, I switched last month. I bought the Samsung Galaxy S4. I wanted the bigger screen that would make my smartphone more functional. I wanted the features that Apple was complacent enough to let someone else introduce first. Just the sheer joy of not having to toggle between two different keyboards to peck out text with letters and numbers made it an easy decision.

However, buyer's remorse has started to creep in over the past five weeks. Google's (NASDAQ: GOOG  ) Android has taken global market share at everyone's expense, but it's not perfect. I do miss iOS, and while at first it seemed like I was merely facing an awkward learning curve -- like getting to know the nuances of a new lover after growing comfortable in a five-year relationship -- I would have no problem returning to my old flame if I could get an iOS brain in the body of an S4.

Best Performing Stocks To Buy Right Now

With the stock market already having put in a strong year's worth of performance in just the first six months of 2013, investors are torn between fear and greed. On one hand, as mainstream investors start to turn their attention away from bonds and toward stocks, investors who stick with the stock market could earn even stronger gains throughout the rest of the year. On the other hand, the gains we've already seen imply economic strengthening that might prove unsustainable.

For today, though, the bulls are winning the argument. Rising levels of construction spending and manufacturing activity in the U.S., as well as a strong Tankan survey in Japan, lent support to those who believe the global economy is on the upswing. Those reports helped push the Dow Jones Industrials (DJINDICES: ^DJI  ) up 145 points by 10:45 a.m. EDT, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose even more sharply.

But looking at how various stocks are performing today gives some hints that investors might not be quite as bullish as you'd expect. Caterpillar (NYSE: CAT  ) and Alcoa (NYSE: AA  ) , which have lagged the Dow badly this year and have acted as a proxy for sentiment about the global economy, posted only modest gains of around 0.1%. Although a single day doesn't provide much information about long-term prospects, the first day of the month often represents a big day for money flowing into the market, so watching these stocks fail to attract investor attention signals that investors aren't convinced that the construction and commodities businesses are likely to be the strongest performers in the near future. Alcoa continues to make moves to shut down production facilities in response to poor pricing conditions, while Caterpillar's acquisition this morning of marine propulsion and control company Berg Propulsion wasn't enough to drive interest in the construction equipment giant.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Jay Yao]

    The benefit of being nimble
$100 billion is about the cumulative market cap ofPioneer Natural Resources (NYSE: PXD  ) ,EOG Resources (NYSE: EOG  ) , andContinental Resources (NYSE: CLR  ) .$100 billion is also roughly half of what ExxonMobil spent on share buybacks over the past 10 years.

  • [By Aaron Levitt]

One of the biggest winners could be Continental Resources (CLR). Already, the Bakken superstar, CLR has made the SCOOP its No. 1 focus in the upcoming few years. The firm has been snapping up acreage in the region and now sits on an impressive land holding of 330,000 net acres. The company plans on applying the same cost cutting and surgical-like drilling techniques that its uses in the Bakken into its new SCOOP acreage.

  • [By Sean Williams]

The other big concern for midstream companies leading into the past couple of years had been infrastructure. Literally, U.S. drillers were pumping so much in assets out of the ground that it was getting bottlenecked in pipelines leading to Cushing, Okla., one of the few energy hubs of the United States. This oversupply is one of the many reasons that perpetuated exploration and production companies such as Continental Resources (NYSE: CLR  ) to bypass traditional transmission methods to Cushing, and turn to transporting its oil by rail to terminals in Louisiana. Sure, it also helped that a huge gap between Brent crude and West Texas Intermediate existed until recently that allowed Continental to reap a nice reward even with shipping costs added in, but it was also a lack of adequate infrastructure that helped lead Continental to make the choice to ship 65% of its oil in the Bakken by rail.

  • [By Matt DiLallo]

This news bodes particularly well for Bakken-focused producers likeContinental Resources (NYSE: CLR  ) andKodiak Oil & Gas (NYSE: KOG  ) . Continental has one of the largest positions in the play, with 1.2 million net acres as of the end of last quarter. It's also the largest producer and driller, likely making it one of the driving forces behind May's record results. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Dan Caplinger]

The first thing to realize about StoneMor is that arcane and flexible accounting rules make it important to dig beneath its GAAP earnings. Growth throughout the industry has been substantial, as up-and-coming Carriage Services (NYSE: CSV  ) continued to stay on pace for double-digit sales growth as it rapidly expands its reach. Even well-established player Matthews International (NASDAQ: MATW  ) managed to grow revenue by nearly 14% in the quarter that ended in March, although its earnings fell slightly from the year-ago quarter. Still, StoneMor's sales haven't been able to rise as quickly as its peers, with its previous report including just a 6% gain in revenue.

VeriFone (NYSE: PAY  ) shares tumbled 21% on Thursday, after the transactions enabler missed Wall Street's profit expectations and issued disappointing guidance. VeriFone wasn't very fun. TiVo (NASDAQ: TIVO  ) can't catch a break. The DVR pioneer was on the receiving end of a $490 million settlement, but the stock still took a hit because it was less than the market was expecting. Go figure. TiVo's intellectual capital alone has been enough to be awarded $1.6 billion in damages in recent years, but the company's enterprise value is a! mere $1 billion. Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN  ) is not the second coming of Webvan, but it is expanding its AmazonFresh grocery delivery service to Los Angeles. It's been testing the service fir years in select neighborhoods in its home turf of Seattle. JinkoSolar (NYSE: JKS  ) moved higher on Friday after reporting a 36% surge in shipments. Best Performing Stocks For 2014

Bank of America(BAC) Merrill Lynch is pointing the finger at exchange-traded funds for the big selloff in biotech stocks.

Biotech stocks were, and still are, some of the market best-performing stocks over the past year. But waves of selling in recent weeks hit these stocks hard, with big price swings in heavily traded ETFs including the $4.9 billion iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF(IBB) (IBB). In March, the ETF has dropped 11%, despite a 2.5% advance today.

he recent sell-off in high growth industries has been ETF driven, as mutual funds have been net buyers over the last several weeks, said Savita Subramanian, head of U.S. equity and quantitative strategy at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

She points to three straight weeks of outflows from biotech ETFs, culminating in $1 billion of withdrawals in the week ended March 26. By comparison, traditional biotechnology stock mutual funds have taken in money for four straight weeks, though they were nearly flat in the most recent week, taking in a paltry $3 million.

The Company produces a range of odor control equipment, which typically utilizes catalytic activated carbon to control odors at municipal wastewater treatment facilities and pumping stations. The Company variety of equipment systems treats the odors that emanate from municipal wastewater treatment facilities and the sewage collection systems that bring the waste to the treatment plant.

The ISEP (Ionic Separator) continuous ion exchange units ! are used ! for the purification and recovery of many products in the food, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology industries. The Hyde GUARDIAN System was developed as a chemical-free, International Maritime Organization (IMO) type approved, ballast water management solution. OmniVision Technologies, Inc. was founded in 1995 and is based in Santa Clara, California.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Anders Bylund]

Shares of OmniVision Technologies (NASDAQ: OVTI  ) jumped as much as 23% overnight, driven by a rock-solid fourth quarter report. The stock set a fresh 52-week high, but remains far below the $36 high-water mark that was set in 2011 when OmniVision's back side illumination, or BSI, camera chips seemed set to rule the smartphone world.

  • [By Evan Niu, CFA]

Once upon a time, I was also an OmniVision (NASDAQ: OVTI  ) bull, thinking the image sensor specialist's lead in backside-illuminated technology gave it a substantial leg up against the competition. When OmniVision lost the iPhone 4S primary camera spot to Sony, that was just the first sign that things may never be the same. The company subsequently lost the iPhone 5 primary sensor, also to Sony. HTC has gone with STMicroelectronicsfor the "UltraPixel" sensor in its One flagship (OmniVision sources the secondary sensor), which lends to the idea that BSI sensors are becoming commoditized. Goodbye, pricing power. I gave up on OmniVision long ago.

Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By James E. Brumley]

You're welcome. Back on March 12th when yours truly penned some bullish thoughts on MagneGas Corporation (NASDAQ:MNGA), nobody cared, largely because nobody had heard of the company, and there was no particular reason anybody had to find MNGA. Now less than a full week later, this once-obscure name is all the rage; no less than 21 different market-centric websites have made mention of the stock's explosive growth over the past few days. MagneGas has been proverbially put on the map, with shares surging 90% (as of right now) since the first exploration last Wednesday. So, like I said, you're welcome.... if you got in on the 12th, or even more realistically, got in on the 14th when MNGA finally crossed above the ceiling at $0.94 I was talking about a little less than a week ago.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

Truth be told, had MagneGas Corporation (NASDAQ:MNGA) shares not surged 400% - and subsequently tumbled - in early January, it might not even be worth looking at now. MNGA did surge then, however, so what we've seen unfurl over the past few days can't be ignored now... as it suggests this small hydrogen supplier stock is about to take flight in a more controlled and longer-lasting way than it did at the beginning of the year.

  • [By James E. Brumley]

If the names Axxess Unlimited Inc. (OTCMKTS:AXXU) and MagneGas Corporation (NASDAQ:MNGA) ring a bell, it might be because yours truly posted some bullish thoughts on both names earlier this week. Although neither small cap stock had done everything they needed to do in order become a fully bullish trade at the time, both MNGA and AXXU have cleared those hurdles in the meantime. So, in case you forgot (or in case you missed the first look), an updated review of Axxess Unlimited and MagneGas is merited.

    Acknowledge the future
When thinking about biotechnology I like to encourage investors to take a big-picture approach that goes beyond pharma. Dozens of industrial biotech companies will produce commercial quantities of chemicals, fuels, fragrances, personal-care products, nutritionals, and more by the end of the decade. Two of the more promising investments currently within reach of investors are Solazyme (NASDAQ: SZYM  ) and Amyris (NASDAQ: AMRS  )

  • [By Robert Rapier]

There's a company called Solazyme (SZYM) who actually makes fuel out of algae; but they couldn't make it very economically so they shifted into neutroceuticals and pharmaceuticals and making oils for cosmetics and things like that.
